Dear Pope Francis, Congratulations on the job! You must be thrilled. I know you tried to get it back in the 90s and were probably thoroughly disappointed when you didn’t get it. But you know, as they say, God knows … Continue reading →

Happy Days

Sometimes I wonder whether there is any hope for humanity. I mean the headlines on the news are filled with war, sadness and death. I know that bad, sexy, distraught news sells. But sometimes I get tired hearing about the … Continue reading →

It seems like that time of year. A couple weeks out of celebrating the New Year and we wonder what on earth are we doing? Many of us use the time between Christmas and New Years to reassess our lives. … Continue reading →

Romeo and Cassey

So far…I hate twenty-thirteen. Before I begin explaining why, let me note that I have two dogs who I treat like my children. The fact that they didn’t come from my womb, or are an entirely different species to me … Continue reading →

DNA

It is probably the oldest question that we try to answer. Are our lives governed by a pre-determined fate, or do our choices dictate the future we will have? Earlier this week, it was reported that you could have your … Continue reading →

There is no better time to reflect than Christmas.  More because it is close to New Years than trying to decide whether you were naughty or nice before Santa arrives. Last year this time, I wasn’t writing.  I was wishing … Continue reading →

Oh my God, I can take it anymore. Is anyone else yelling at the television in frustration? Who cares about some stupid prank?  Why aren’t they focusing on the real issue? Oh yeah, that’s right, it is still society’s dark … Continue reading →

pregnant

Just by reading this post you are probably doing harm to your unborn child. Well, not really, but if you read enough research on the do’s and don’ts of pregnancy and pre-pregnancy then that statement would sound plausible. A recent … Continue reading →

Today I remembered my most favourite quote and I thought I would share it with you. For me, it just makes complicated life so simple and so amazing.

“Consider the fact that for 3.8 billion years, a period of time older than the Earth’s mountains and rivers and oceans, every one of your forebears on both sides has been attractive enough to find a mate, healthy enough to reproduce, and sufficiently blessed by fate and circumstances to live long enough to do so. Not one of your pertinent ancestors was squashed, devoured, drowned, starved, stranded, stuck fast, untimely wounded, or otherwise deflected from its life’s quest of delivering a tiny charge of genetic material to the right partner at the right moment in order to perpetuate the only possible sequence of hereditary combinations that could result — eventually, astoundingly, and all too briefly — in you.”

- Bill Bryson, A Short History of Nearly Everything
